View Larger Yesterday I learned that the great Ralph McQuarrie had passed away. He, of course, was the man responsible for designing the look of Star Wars. From the conception of Darth Vader to the execution of the brilliant matte paintings seen throughout the first trilogy, he was behind it all, and helped to define some of the most iconic imagery ever in science fiction and pop culture. He will be missed.
Above is a piece I did in 2010 for Dark Horse’s Star Wars: Knight Errant series. It is an homage to McQuarrie’s famous concept art of Darth Vadar and Luke’s first confrontation.
